The pay gap will take over 200 years to close
Unless we act NOW. Women earn just 82 cents for every $1 earned by men. For women of color it's 62 cents or LESS.

The Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963, yet women are continually paid less

While states have begun to pass legislation to truly promote equal pay, it's seldom implemented or enforced

Why Does the Pay Gap Exist?

♀Differences in jobs worked/industries entered
♀Difference in years of expirience, since women are expected to take on caregiver roles
♀Difference in hours worked, since women have to accomodate unpaid labor, such as childcare
♀Dicsrimination faced in the workplace, especially towards women of color

What Can States Do?

✦Promote pay transperency to prevent secrecy, which perpetuates discrimination

✦Prohibit the use of salary history in hiring, so wage disparity is not perpetuated in a new job

✦Challenge occupational segregation so employers cannot operate on stereotypes; for example, that a mother will be less comitted to her job.

✦Enable workers to challenge pay discrimination by ensuring employers don't gain loopholes in the judicial system, and there's clarification on what encompasses discrimination.
